What's the download Image Bahareh's Quote
"Downloading cannot be left in the past. Unlike in Japan, for example, methods of streaming and renting music are not the current answer because in the US market ownership of a song, whether in a tangible or digital form is important. Also, the notion of paid subscription ignores the fact that younger generations do not have the funds to seek such methods."

Bio
Bahareh is a 22-year-old graduate from the University of Southern California where she studied Music Industry and Communication. She is currently teaching piano lessons and working at a talent agency.

Music has always been an integral part of Bahareh's life and she plans to keep it that way. Her vested interest in the issue of downloading comes from the fact that she wants to someday work in the music industry as an entertainment lawyer.

She still remembers Shawn Fanning on the cover of Time Magazine that dealt with the topic of Napster. She states that when reading that issue, she did not realize how downloading would affect the industry. Through her classes like Music Law, and interning in the industry, she has learned just what downloading has done to the music industry. She states, "Artists cannot recoup and record companies are becoming more and more like ghost towns as jobs are being lost."

She still buys CDs because she wants to support artists and help keep the industry thriving. Yet, she feels that amongst her college peers, buying CDs is becoming an extinct act, while legal and illegal downloads are being conducted instead.

Bahareh has played the piano since she was six and she has taken music classes at USC, therefore she had an understanding of the creative side of the business. Her aspiration to become a lawyer in the industry stems from her desire to understand the legalities of issues involved in the business as well. She states, "It is easy to forget about the business facet when dealing with forms of art like music. However, the music industry is exactly what it implies to be – it is in every sense an industry that needs to generate revenue in order to survive. The industry finally has begun to discover a means to generate revenue from downloading. Without doubt, downloading has changed the way we listen to music. Hopefully practices within the industry will change as well."
