"Since I come from a generation of downloaders I also understand the many reasons people give for illegally downloading music. Some people just don't understand that it is wrong. Educating future generations will be key to curbing some of this illegal activity."

Bio
Brittany, 23, is from Louisville, Ky. and currently resides in Nashville, Tenn. She is a recent graduate of the Recording Industry Management program at Middle Tennessee State University. There, she DJ'ed her own radio show, "The Midnight City Showcase," on the school's station WMTS and was Vice President and Promotions Designer for the student-run record label Scared Rabbit Records. Brittany has held internships at APA booking agency, Big Tractor Music Publishing and The Nashville Chapter of the Recording Academy. She is currently pursuing work as a stylist for artists in the Nashville area. She also enjoys working as a buyer for a local clothing store, designing clothes, and modeling.

Brittany believes that teens just want to find music they can call their own. She feels that because of radio and label consolidation, and retail giants such as Wal-Mart forcing many Mom and Pop stores to close; many consumers are forced to find music by illegally downloading it. She believes that if labels paid more attention to the needs of the consumer--most importantly this young market--and more time educating the consumer on the inner-workings of the industry, both sides could benefit and trust could be restored.

Brittany also believes that labels spend too much money on advertising and not enough on artist development. She feels that with the existence of sites such as MySpace.com, music fans can market to themselves and often disregard the conventional means of advertising. She states “The Internet has opened up ways for bands that could never previously compete financially with top 20 artists by allowing them to quickly develop a large fan base.” She also feels the Internet has created a close community among artists and their fans.
