Bio
Jill Apelgren is 26 and lives in Boston. She is entering her second year at Suffolk University Law School and plans to focus on intellectual property law. Jill received her Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music. At school she served on Berklee’s student-run record label, Heavy Rotation Records. Between graduating in 2002 and law school she worked for the Handel and Haydn Society, an orchestra in Boston.
Jill grew up in Simsbury, CT where she studied classical voice and piano. As an artist and songwriter, Jill understands the importance of protecting copyright laws. She states, "Illegal downloading against the wishes of the artist and writer is fundamentally wrong, but the issue is very complicated and the recording industry is going to have to make some changes. Young people don't understand how artists make money and if they do, they have a general mistrust of record companies and the royalty system."
Jill believes it's time to reach out to music lovers and get an idea of how young people are feeling and the Interactive Advisory Board is the first step.
