What's the download Image Joy's Quote
"Record companies need to know that the Internet is the greatest advertising and promotional tool they have. If on-line music distribution business models that allow streaming and/or downloading for set fees do not succeed, or if illegal downloading continues to run rampant, I believe that computers, MP3 players, and CD-Rs should be added to the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. In that way record companies, artists, publishers, and songwriters can all make some sort of profit off of the downloading, ripping, and burning of copyrighted music."

Bio
Joy is a 20-year-old, third-year student at the University of Southern California with a major in Print Journalism and minor in Music Industry. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif. and grew up listening to music and watching MTV.

In the past, Joy has interned at Universal Music Group, Overbrook Entertainment, and Billboard Magazine. She is currently a member of the sound team at her church. In addition, she works as a Stage Manager for the USC Thornton School of Music. She has also contributed articles to Urban Magazine, Billboard Magazine, LA Weekly, Black Voices e-magazine, and Saturday Night Magazine. After graduation, Joy wants to work as a music reporter.

Joy states, "Due to the consolidation of radio, I know I would not have found some of my favorite artists if not for the Internet and downloading. I'm the type of person who downloads music to decide if I want to buy the album. Unless it's one of my favorite artists, I don't buy an album until I have heard the entire album. Those 30-second snippets on online music stores just don't cut it for me. I like holding an actual CD in my hands because of the cover art, liner notes, and "Thank You's" – these are all apart of an album listening experience for me.״

Joy believes that more people would legally download music if the business model was simple and attractive. Her opinion is that iTunes is almost there, but if they could guarantee that every song and every version of that song could be found on the service, then it would attract more users. She also believes that the Audio Home Recording Act should be amended to include computers, MP3 players, and CD-Rs/CD-RWs. Joy states, "The same way artists and record companies got compensated for cassettes and cassette recorders; they should get compensated for these devices that can be used for digital music sharing. I believe that digital music is the new frontier for upcoming and established artists. The music industry could very well become a singles industry and a digital industry, but something has to first be done to make sure that everyone involved in making the album is compensated and that the fans have good music to listen to."
