You hear them on your favorite TV Shows, you download them from iTunes, read about them on Pitchfork and buy their CDs from CD Baby. Ever stop to wonder what indie artists really think about the music industry today? Their opinions on digital music and what it has done for their career? Maybe just who they think are the hottest up and coming bands?
You came to the right place. What's The Download has been talking to indie artists, and each month we are going to "spotlight" someone different. Straight from their mouths, you will hear what is going on inside the mind of your favorite artists. This month will feature the one-woman indie musical dynamo known as Kat Parsons who thinks:
"I think legal downloading is great- I've had a great time giving fans some tracks I've recorded in my bedroom for free and for fun. I also offer "Go Find Her" (a track from my album "No Will Power") for free on myspace.com/KatParsons as a way for people to get to know me. Illegal downloading is more confusing to me. On one hand, I love the idea of spreading music all around and I would hate for someone not to have access to the music that they love because of their financial situation.....on the other hand, recording costs money, I need to make a living, and it does directly affect me as an artist and my ability to continue to record and perform (and eat and pay my rent and buy the music that I love)."
